BACKCOUNTRY fishing around Charlotte Harbor has something for everyone: the excitement of seeing your fish (often before they strike) take hold of the end of your line, the tranquility of hundreds of wilderness islands surrounded by nothing but clear blue water, the intrigue of spotting Florida osprey, egrets, heron, dolphin, and even the occasional manatee.

In Southwest Florida there is no better inshore fishing than the pristine waters found in Charlotte Harbor and Gasparilla Sound. This vast area of shallow water with it’s mangrove islands, channels, bays, sounds and backcountry flats offer some of the best year round light tackle and fly fishing in the state.

Sandy concave areas found in these waters are know as potholes and are clearly seen on the grass flats. The excitement of seeing game fish such as Tarpon, Redfish and Snook in these shallow waters, sometimes even as they are about to feed on your bait, lure or fly is an unforgettable experience. A variety of other species are available such as Spotted Sea Trout, Jack Crevalle, Cobia, Flounder, Pompano, Grouper and Ladyfish to name a few.
